The principle

Quiet work, properly held.

A yacht is a household that moves. The difference between a good week and a memorable one is rarely the vessel; it is the captain, the chef and whether anybody thought to ask how your family actually spends a day at sea.

We charter from a shortlist we keep current by inspection, and we brief the crew as we would brief staff at your residence.

Indian waters and the Mediterranean are different propositions and it is worth being blunt about which you are choosing. Goa, Mumbai and the Andamans offer real cruising with a monsoon season that closes much of it for months. The Mediterranean and the Caribbean offer depth of fleet and crew but require you to travel to the boat. Both are worth doing. They are rarely worth confusing.

What we arrange

Considered from the first call.

01

Vessel selection

Motor and sail charters in the Mediterranean, Adriatic, Andamans, Thailand and Indonesia, matched to guest count, sea state and the pace you want.

02

Crew and provisioning

Captain and chef interviewed on your behalf. Menus, cellar, dietary and religious requirements agreed before embarkation.

03

Itinerary and berths

Berthing in constrained harbours, shore excursions, restaurant tables and helicopter or tender transfers held in place across the charter.

04

Ownership and brokerage

Purchase representation, survey, flag and management introductions for members who decide to own rather than charter.

05

Season, weather and the honest window

The Indian west coast season runs roughly October to May, and the monsoon closes it decisively rather than gradually. Chartering at the edges of that window means accepting weather risk. We tell you where the edge is rather than taking the booking and hoping.

06

Ownership, flagging and the running cost

For families considering purchase, the acquisition price is the smaller decision. Flag registration, crew, berthing, insurance, survey and annual maintenance determine what the vessel actually costs to hold. Indian coastal registration and foreign flagging carry very different obligations, and the choice should be made before a boat is chosen.

The Beckon standard

Nothing left to chance.

  • Vessels inspected or verified before recommendation
  • Guest list and movements held in confidence
  • Contingency ports identified for weather and medical need
  • Charter fee, APA and expenses reconciled and returned to you in full
  • Where weather makes a charter inadvisable we say so and rearrange, rather than sailing to protect a booking.

Questions, answered once

Yacht Charter, without the theatre.

How far in advance should a charter be arranged?

For the Mediterranean high season, three to six months secures the better vessels and crews. In the Andamans and Southeast Asia, six weeks is usually sufficient. Short notice is workable, and we will tell you plainly what it costs you in choice.

What is an APA and how is it handled?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance covers fuel, food, berths and shore costs. We hold the captain to an itemised account and return the unspent balance to you with the reconciliation.

Can you arrange charters within Indian waters?

Yes. Andaman and Goa charters are arranged with the relevant clearances, which take longer than most guests expect. We begin them early.

Can our own staff travel aboard?

Usually, subject to cabin capacity and flag rules. We agree it with the captain in writing before the contract is signed, never on the day of boarding.

Can we charter in Indian waters year round?

No. The west coast season is broadly October to May and the southwest monsoon closes it. The Andamans have a different pattern. Anyone offering you a guaranteed Mumbai charter in July is not being straight with you.

Should we buy rather than charter?

The rough test is how many weeks a year you will genuinely use it. Below a handful, chartering is almost always cheaper and considerably less trouble, because you are not carrying crew and berthing through the months the boat sits idle. Above that, ownership starts to make sense and the structuring question becomes the important one.

How does a request reach Beckon?

By call, message or WhatsApp to your concierge. There is no form, no ticket number and no queue. One line is enough to begin.

What does membership cost?

Beckon is Rs. 4,00,000 annually with a Rs. 1,00,000 joining fee, exclusive of GST. Beckon Black is by invitation only. Service costs are billed separately at actuals, with no commissions and no markups.

Are service costs marked up?

No. Vendor and supplier invoices are passed to you exactly as received. Beckon is paid by your membership, which is why our recommendation is never for sale.

What are the service hours?

Beckon members are supported from ten in the morning to ten at night, seven days a week. Beckon Black members have a named relationship manager available at every hour.

How is discretion maintained?

Every request is held by a single named concierge. Details are not circulated internally, staff are bound by confidentiality undertakings, and Beckon signs a non disclosure agreement with any member who asks.

Is there a limit on the number of requests?

No. Membership is limited instead. We keep the house small so that no concierge is ever carrying more than they can hold properly.

Can requests be made outside India?

Yes. Our members live and travel across London, Dubai, Singapore, Zurich, New York and the Mediterranean, and we hold relationships in each.

How does one join?

Through introduction by an existing member, or through an application read personally by our secretary. Every applicant meets us before an invitation is extended.

A private conversation

Tell us only what matters.

A line, a call or a message is enough. Your concierge will ask what is necessary and take the rest from there.
